Who is at Risk?
Older individuals are more likely to develop a stroke and, in Barbados, women appear to be at higher risk than men.
The most important risk factor is uncontrolled hypertension but the following also increase risk: diabetes, obesity, heart disease, high blood cholesterol levels, smoking, alcohol abuse, cocaine use.
