Mr.Cally Boyea, Country Manager, Esso
Standard Oil S.A. Ltd. who recently presented the scholarship
grant to Mrs. Clarke-Grant noted that the initiative, which was
established in 2005, builds on the company’s longstanding
support for education by making strategic contributions to
support the education of women and girls in the communities
where the company has a presence.
He said that the programme bolsters their abilities to create
positive and sustainable changes at all levels of society –
personal, organizational, community and national. The training
covers nonprofit leadership, financial and resource management,
strategic planning, human resources, grant writing and personal
empowerment.
Among ExxonMobil’s objectives of the initiative are to
contribute to the development of the communities and countries
where the company operates by funding and promoting the
education of women and girls, and to build and support the
capacity of women and non-government community organizations so
they can help drive development and economic growth.
ExxonMobil also looks to strengthen and
enhance relationships with host governments and communities by
helping to improve the quality of life by contributing funds,
resources and expertise in an area of significant community
need.
Mrs. Clarke-Grant, who has been with the
Heart & Stroke Foundation of Barbados since 1997, was appointed
CDP&R Manager in February this year. She said that she looked
forward to going on the course in Washington. “For one thing”
she said, “it is a tremendous opportunity for me to network with
other managers and to share ideas. In particular, since the
participants will be of diverse nationalities, it will give me a
chance to exchange information about my country and culture and
to learn something of theirs. I will put the experience and
knowledge that I gain from the course to good use for the
benefit of the Heart & Stroke Foundation and of the wider
society.”
The course is followed by a year-long
coaching programme designed to help participants achieve their
personal and professional goals.
