Another donation from Decca
For
the second year running Decca Sports Club of the UK has made a
valuable contribution to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of
Barbados. Following their donation of £450 this time last year,
on this occasion the club gave BDS$2,000, the equivalent of
£500, to the Foundation.
John Holder, a representative of the club
and a top cricket umpire in the UK, made the presentation to CEO,
Adrian Randall, at the Foundation's headquarters on Jemmotts
Lane.
The funds were part proceeds of a Charity
Twenty/20 Cricket Match and Fun Day recently held by the club.
The four teams taking part in the match were Decca, Barbados
High Commission, Whiteley Village and Trafalgar Cavaliers.
The proceeds were also shared by another
Barbadian institution, The Ann Hill School of Special Education,
as well as the Organization for Sickle Cell Research also Cancer
Research, and the Heart Foundation of Jamaica.
Mr. Randall said that he was delighted that
the club had once again chosen the Foundation for the
significant contribution. He stated that the funds will go
towards assisting those in the Cardiovascular Disease Prevention
and Rehabilitation programme who cannot afford the fees.
Decca Sports Club is based in Tolworth,
Surrey, South London, and a large number of its membership is of
Caribbean roots. Some committee members include Holly Sinckler,
said to be the driving force behind the club, Herbie Yearwood,
Barbados Deputy High Commissioner, Geoff Peake, who is a strong
financial backer, and Popular DJ Daddy Earney of 96.9 FM
Mr. Holder gave the assurance that the
partnership between the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Barbados
and Decca Sports Club would continue. While at the Foundation he
took the opportunity to present a movie camera to Wilma McClean
for the Ann Hill School.
