HSFB shares with Esso at Family Day

Staff members and volunteers of the Heart &
Stroke Foundation of Barbados, led by ECC Manager Kim
Clarke-Grant and CEO Adrian Randall recently took the
opportunity to participate in Esso Family Day. The event was
held at the Police Sports Complex, Weymouth on October 14, 2007.
Esso’s Country Manager Callie Boyea said
that the Day was a significant and important one on Esso’s
annual calendar. “Once a year we get the chance to get together,
as staff, family and friends, in an informal, relaxed
atmosphere,” said Mr. Boyea.“ We meet and share with each other
in fellowship, and we also arrange to be given formal addresses
and demonstrations on safety and well-being by persons and
organizations with expertise in those areas. And, after lunch,
it’s fun and games in the afternoon!”
The games include sack races, egg and spoon
and three-legged races, and many other such light-hearted, fun
events.
This year the Heart & Stroke Foundation of
Barbados made a presentation on CPR and First Aid. This was done
by ECC instructor Rodney Brathwaite, who also demonstrated the
use of the Automated External Defibrillator in the workplace.
Later in the proceedings, many persons took
the opportunity to have their blood sugar and blood pressure
checked by the Foundation personnel.
A number of other interesting and
informative presentations were made. Fire Officer Boxhill of the
Barbados Fire Service spoke on fire safety practices in the
home, in cars and in the workplace. Mr. Boxhill also explained
the proper use and care of the fire extinguisher.
Junior Jordan of the Caribbean Academy of
Driving Excellence gave an address on safe driving practices,
particularly in defensive driving, while Station Sgt. Howell of
the Royal Barbados Police Force spoke on Home Security.
