These courses are taught by nursing tutors awaiting validation by the general nursing council and include courses such as "Understanding Stroke" and "Cardiovascular Dementia". Classes are Mondays or Wednesdays and include an electronic manual.
Heartsaver Paediatric First Aid with CPR & AED
The Heartsaver Paediatric First Aid course is designed to meet the regulatory and credentialed training requirements for child care workers. Heartsaver First Aid with CPR and AED
Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED is a one day classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage a first aid, choking or sudden cardiac arrest emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrives. Students learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies. Advanced Paediatric Life Support (PALS)
The two day PALS Provider Course provides healthcare professionals the knowledge and skills to better recognize and treat critically ill infants and children. The course uses a scenario-based, team approach to teach paediatric emergency management of paediatric patients approaching or already in respiratory or cardiac arrest. The course covers treatment beyond the first few emergency minutes and goes through stabilizing patients or transport phases of a paediatric emergency, in or out of the hospital. Who should complete this course?: Target audience are Registered Nurses, Doctors, Paramedics and community dental Physicians’. Learn to: The course covers treatment beyond the first few emergency minutes and goes through stabilizing patients or transport phases of a pediatric emergency, in or out of the hospital and includes the following: Recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk for cardio-pulmonary arrest Lethal arrythmias Myocardial Infarction Stroke and its complications The systematic approach to paediatric assessment Effective respiratory management Validate skills for 1- and 2-person CPR and AED skills for infant and child Defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion Intraosseous access and fluid bolus administration Effective resuscitation team dynamics Prerequisites : Current certification of Basic Life Support (BLS) is requried for entry. All courses include a reference manual, and American Heart Association (AHA) certification card.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
The two day ACLS Provider Course provides the knowledge and skills needed to evaluate and manage the first 10 minutes of an adult ventricular fibrillation/ventricular tachycardia (VF/VT) arrest. Who should complete this course?: Target audience are Registered Nurses, Doctors, Paramedics and community dental Physicians’. Learn to: Providers are expected to learn to manage 10 core ACLS cases: a respiratory emergency , four types of cardiac arrest (simple VF/VT, complex VF/VT, PEA and asystole), four types of pre-arrest emergencies (bradychardia, stable tachycardia, unstable tachycardia and acute coronary syndromes) and stroke. Recognition, intervention and prevention of periarrest conditions such as Lethal arrythmias Myocardial Infarction Stroke and its complications Advanced airway management Arrhythmia recognition Defibrilation and Cardioversion Cardiac Pharmacology and much more ! This experience is invaluable to any field of medicine. Prerequisites : Current certification of Basic Life Support (BLS) is requried for entry. If needed the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Barbados will arrange for certification or re-certification in BLS, upon registration for an Advanced Cardiac Life Support Course All courses include a reference manual, and American Heart Association (AHA) certification card.
Basic Life Support
The Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare provider course is designed to train healthcare workers in the lifesaving skills both of CPR for adult, infant, child and relief of choking in a safe and effective manner. Take just one day to gain American Heart Association certification.
The Heart & Stoke Foundation of Barbados (HSFOB) conducts courses in Basic Cardiac Life Support (CPR) with the use of the AED, Advanced Cardiac Life Support as well as First Aid courses under the aegis of the American Heart Association (AHA). These courses follow the standards of the AHA with the same materials, examinations, and certification being given as those in the United States.
